11th session

I liked making the name tent. I Need to build up a picture file so I have things to pull from. The web page is giving us trouble so I am blogging. I am going to be working on my rubric for the final project tomorrow (in the 11th hour.) Still making changes as I teach the lesson I outlined, some things woking and some not. I'm learning as I go and plan to get this lesson refined by learning from the mistakes I'm making now. Asking the kids for input is helpful too. They do seem to know a lot of the terminology for the Big 6 which is encouraging. It is spreading !!!

Adding info...delicious

Yet another source for a wealth of information. I have to say, while this has all been infinitely useful in helping me be more facile with the computer AND defining tasks, organizing etc, I can not imagine having time to just sit and cruise on all these sights. Now a few years ago, I couldn't imagine having a use for e-mail. I rely heavily on it presently both personally and professionally. I know in time, I will be able to use this stuff a lot for lesson planning, but sometimes I feel freaked by the amount of time necessary just to go through a fraction of the possible sources and then to evaluate what is the BEST source for whatever the problem to be solved is...to puruse articles and sights efficiently without always looking over my shoulder thinking I could have found even more. It's overwhelming really. This class, while helping me to organize, also emphasizes the gajillions of possibilities which can be, for a certain breed of us, almost paralyzing.

More Power

The power point tricks are very cool. I'm starting to see why people can spend hours on the computer. It will take practice, but it's all fun.
Also thinking about how going back to the Essential Question again and again can bring me back on track for which path to take.
It's still light out and only a little more snow is expected for April. What more could we ask for????

I got the Power

I LOVE the Power point. I think it will be something I use muchos!!!
The citation maker is a great tool and I'm jealous that we never had it to alleviate the useless tedium of getting the format correctly.
I'm still thinking about the film we saw the first day and the implications of it. We continue to make them use rote memory, test them etc and we need to be teaching them to be hunter, gatherers and processors of info.

Thanks for a great class!!!

Session Lucky no7

The directories are a great resource. Also liked all the tools for notetaking.
I don't feel very articulate right now, but will get back to this blog and be a tad more expressive at a later date.

Wiki fun

We worked on wikis tonight after reading picture books for older children. Both activities were wicked fun, although our book was certainly not fun-ny.
Also learned new methods for searching for info. online and am still reeling from the shock of Edgar's incest. As always, an info packed class with lots of tips for technology that his really advancing my techno prowess!!
Thanks!!

Session 4

Minerva and Marvel are eye opening, proof positive of the film we watched on technology the first day. I quickly realized on Marvel, that I need to work on this a lot more.
A lot of aspects of technology that are daunting at first (even e-mail), become second nature. In order to stay in this century, I want to learn to be a hunter and gatherer of info.
